Some speech sounds are difficult for a lot of children: /r/ (as in ‘rabbit’, /s/ (as in ‘snake’) are major examples. In our articulation groups kids will learn how to produce the sound that is giving them trouble properly, do drills and homework to improve their pronunciation. In addition to working with traditional speech correction methods, children will have access to an ultrasound machine which will enable them to see their tongue inside their mouth in real time. This will allow them to practice putting it in the correct shape for the sound they are practicing.

DATES: Mondays 4:00 – 5:00pm

AGES: 5+ (groups will be created based on age and the sound being worked on)

SLP: Bosko Radanov, RSLP

Executive Functioning

Executive functioning is a term for all those skills we use when we plan and execute a plan, use our working memory, regulate attention, problem solve, are flexible, switch tasks, etc. The members of this group will learn how to start doing this and troubleshooting themselves rather than relying on others to do things for them. We will practice strategies enabling us to see and execute all the steps that are needed to complete tasks. We will find tools that will help us be better organized.

DATES: Mondays 5:00 – 6:00pm

COST: $80 PER hour

Social Thinking Groups

This group is for children who have social communication delays. We will target a variety of social communication goals using parts of the curriculum designed by Michelle G. Winner, www.socialthinking.com.  To quote Michelle Garcia Winner (from her website : “Social thinking is what we do when we interact with people: we think about them. And how we think about people affects how we behave, which in turn affects how others respond to us, which in turn affects our own emotions.”Depending on the children in the group, this might include concepts such as expected and unexpected behaviours, whole body listening, whole body talking, body and brain in the group.  Some of the groups will also touch on Michelle G. Hello,
I would like to get more details about your social language groups. Have they already started this Fall? For how long does the session run? Where does it take place? Any information would be helpful.
    Thank you.
    Regards.

Our groups have started but we are still accepting clients into some of the groups. The sessions last one hour at our clinic on 41st Avenue. I would be happy to book your child in for an initial consultation. Please email our office manager, Chantal at chantal@westcoastspeech.com and she will book you in for a no charge consultation to see if we have a group that would work for your child. Thank you, Janine
